As I've mentioned before I think that one of the most important features of OOo is the support for OpenDocument. Open formats in general are a good thing, but we mostly only proprietary formats in day to day use. So I would consider that a one-off promotion of open formats in general be coordinated among OOo, StarOffice, AbiWord, Kword and the other projects which use OpenDocument. Or it could even be among more projects and involve a few more formats like Ogg Vorbis.

That's a way to focus on important issues that benefit both the end users and the OOo project. Plus by focussing on the format rather than the product, there is a better opportunity for different groups to work together on this one. Lastly, open formats is an area in which MS has chosen not to compete.

Groups like EFF, OSI, of course might be interested in at the very least endorsing open formats. However, I think even groups like Amnesty International and a lot of teaching organizations, even at the University level, have a lot to gain by ensuring a future with open formats.

As an example, of a project, if I recall correctly, some Elvis tunes are now in the public domain in some countries. Releasing them (where allowed) in Ogg Vorbis for people to listen to could be used to draw them to a general site covering open formats for the novice.
