The purpose of this message is to clarify the purpose of the Marketing
Project lists, and for those that are new to [EMAIL PROTECTED], create
awareness of specific activity lists and other marketing related lists
within OOo.

If you are not logged in, this is the list of mailing lists that will be
displayed at
http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList There is
a brief description for each of these lists on the Mailing lists page
and you can browse each of the archives from there too.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the main Marketing Project email discussion list.
Similar to that of development projects, tasks and activities are
discussed here to complement activities submitted and tracked in
IssueTracker and our ToDo List
(http://marketing.openoffice.org/todos.html). An expurgated ToDo List
for 2.0 needs to be uploaded, and I hope to initiate this in the next
few days.

[email protected] is the list that forms part of the Art
Project (http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/). It is a working list for
members to create and request artwork and graphics for the
OpenOffice.org Project. Have a look and see where you can contribute.

The [EMAIL PROTECTED] list was added to discuss the draft (version
0.5) Strategic Marketing Plan 2010 (SMP) launched at OOoCon2004. Please
see http://marketing.openoffice.org/strategy/ to see how the plan is
being built, and contribute on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list so that we
can finalise and implement the plan. It's your plan :)

Subscribers to [EMAIL PROTECTED] are working on sorting through the many
RFEs. If you are interested in product development, read the archives,
join the list and see where you can help out. We would be pleased to
have you.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a discussion list specifically for people interested
in OpenOffice.org and education including schools, universities, and
community education and training.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is used to coordinate participation and attendance at
conferences, exhibitions, seminars, presentations and demonstrations.
Any type of event that you can think of other than the OpenOffice.org
Conference (OOoCon).

Deepankar, Erwin and others use [EMAIL PROTECTED] to collate material
for the OpenOffice.org newsletter. Subscribe to sneak preview OOo
newsletter articles :) Helping out with the collection of articles and
proofreading the newsletter I'm sure would be much appreciated too.

Subscribing to [EMAIL PROTECTED] allows you to receive automated messages as
a result of developers tweaking the Marketing Project resources. For
example, web pages and files.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is an announcement only list and the intention is to
begin to use it more to announce the progress or completion of Marketing
Project tasks.

Subscribing to [EMAIL PROTECTED] allows you to receive all automated
messages from IssueTracker related to the Marketing Project. This is a
good way to watch all the tasks and activity within the project.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] was set up by Josh Berkus for English speaking press.
It has not been used for some time and unfortunately receives a lot of
SPAM. This list is being deprecated as [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the main
[ooo-announce] list are now used instead.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is where all the OpenOffice.org Conference
organisation occurs. Recently, OOoCon 2005, 28-30 September 2005, Slovenia.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] includes messages from organising the
inaugural OOoCon, and [EMAIL PROTECTED] was used for
organisers and participants to discuss OOoCon in general. There is an
[EMAIL PROTECTED] list for this year's potential attendees
and participants.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is used by the Libraries and Public Administrations
Project (http://marketing.openoffice.org/pa/). The main topic of
discussion has been the compilation of a CD suitable for libraries and
public administrations and or in bulk quantities.

If you are a member of the Marketing Project and login before viewing
the http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList
page, you will see other lists. These are private lists in the sense
that we need the core team (subscribers) to be able to collaborate in
short intense bursts. Examples of these lists are the PR team and MARCON
(Marketing Communications and Information Network), see:
http://marketing.openoffice.org/contacts.html.

Other projects and project lists that are of interest to the Marketing
Project are:

The Stats Project (http://stats.openoffice.org/) [EMAIL PROTECTED] list is not a
busy list, but this is because it is a small group making this happen.
While Louis does notify [EMAIL PROTECTED] when new stats have been put up,
the Stats Project in itself may be of interest to you.

The Specifications Project (http://specs.openoffice.org/) appears to be
a little known project and contains many interesting specifications
documents both from a ui and technical perspective. The [EMAIL PROTECTED]
archives are not available, but the [EMAIL PROTECTED] demonstrates a hive
of activity.

The Website Project (http://website.openoffice.org/) and its
[EMAIL PROTECTED] list is where the front face of OOo is designed and
implemented.

The Native Language Confederation utilises [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
collaborate between individual Native-Language Projects. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
was set up mainly for the Marketing Project and Native-Language
Confederation to work together on marketing and communication
activities. Both of these lists are conducted in English. Each of the
Native-Lang Projects include many discussion lists.

The BizDev Project (http://bizdev.openoffice.org/) main discussions
occur on [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] (formerly [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

The Distribution Project (http://distribution.openoffice.org/)
establishes policy and consolidates areas and links relating to the
distribution of OpenOffice.org.

General mailing list guidelines that apply to all OOo lists are:
http://www.openoffice.org/ml_guidelines.html

Of the general OOo lists, [email protected] is for all enquiries or
discussions related to "how-to". The [email protected] list is to
be used for general discussion that is may be somewhat related to
OpenOffice.org, but does not fit on any specific lists.

Please assist me to keep our project lists specific to the purpose so
that we can achieve that much more to contribute to the success of
marketing OpenOffice.org.

All the best
Jacqueline McNally
