Actually, if the claims MS makes about being able to implement any XML
schema at all in MS Office are true, then adding support for OpenDocument
should be rather straightforward.
So unless those claims are false, there is little hinderance on the
technical side of things.
Personally, I don't the the petition will affect MS directly. MS is not
the first vendor to back their agenda with claims of 'customer demand'
However, I do think that the petition will raise public awareness of
OpenDocument in other ways.
