Be aware that the Ubuntu 5.10 ships with the Debian variant of OOo. You
may prefer their icons to the default set shipped with the community's
OOo - I don't :-) However, if you use Base, you will not like the fact
that the report writer doesn't work (and possibly other java features). 

The alternative is to download the rpms from the OOo site and install
them with sudo alien -i *.rpm, and then install the Sun JRE from
http://www.java.com. If you need more information I'm sure someone will
have written it up on http://www.ubuntuforums.org
