OOo marketing ought to capitalize on the easy transition from current MSO to OOo as compared to the "Next Version" of MSO. Both cost-wise and from the end-user point of view OOo is going to be better. The difference is probably big enough that CTOs have a motive to at least evaluate OOo before making a decision.

Much of the publicly visible marketing of earlier versions of MSO has played up the two claims that the interfaces for the versions are the same and that users will have no difficulty adjusting to the changes. Both claims are false, but problems are small enough that it's been allowed to slide.

However, by all accounts the upcoming MSO 12 will present major problems for anyone used to the current tools and the transition will be disruptive and costly. [1] It is likely that a transition to MSO 12 may be more difficult and costly than a transition to OOo.

For the past year there's been a slow but rather steady stream of articles about MSO 12. The common thread through them has three points:
1) there are some unspecified ties to server and network services
2) no mention of what the promised digital restrictions will do or how
3) major changes to the interface and functionality.

I suspect that knowing any of those details for MSO would put OOo in a favorable light. If there is nothing prohibiting journalists from writing about both MSO and OOo, then it would be useful to have more comparisons or at least coverage of the advantages of OOo. If there is something prohibiting journalists from writing about both MSO and OOo, then that needs to see daylight.

The mainstream press should have some reviews of OOo2 which is a product available here and now rather than focusing on pre-beta (though mis-labeled as beta) developer snapshots of a product with a rather distant release date.
