Well, that's the question I was asking for. Louis will interview Eric
very soon, if not done already.
And other in th Mac Team ... :-)
Erwin, Hirano, Florian or myself will
include something in the newsletter. In the mean time, what Eric is
talking about is not that he has managed to release OOo on MacTel but
Important : I was *not* alone to do everything ;-)
Florian Heckl, Daniel Boelzle and Stephan Bergmann helped a lot for
Mactel port. And some work is still to do.
Again, many thank's to them :-)
Pavel Janik contribution was important too.
Don't forget that until we definitively fix the last bridges bug,
this is experimental work, in progress.
that so far the porting is doing much better than expected since he
managed to compile a temporary build of the specific mac version
(Aqua)
on the MacTel platform.
Aqua version does not exist. Waht we currently have is a repeatable
complete build without use Xlib, but only an empty window. Now we
have to fill it...
Don't forget : this "thing" is of course not usable at all. A lot is
still to do before we can show something really interesting.
So what can be done is to "pollute the waves"
and get cocky and noisy in front of Microsoft; nothing more than that
Be careful : we have to take care about announce effects. Over all
for native port. For example, limit our communications about existing
and working things. e.g. : OpenOffice.org for Mac OS X works
natively on Mactel.
No idea about Microsoft and Mactel port of MS Office ;-)
though, as the public is not interested to know that a developper, as
skilled as he can be, has managed to do this with a temporary
build. The
public wants a release (even a beta), not a wild set of binaries, as
this may be its perception.
Yes, and currently we have nothing interesting to show about native
port. What I can say is that February will be a great month for
porting project, because a lot of work is planned.
The best we can do is to update Timeline, Baseline and propose a
Roadmap.

eric bachard
