Sorry, I'm not sure I understand.  
3.0 could be several years away.  There was three and a half years 
between 1.0 and 2.0.  In that same period the StarOffice version 
numbering went from 6.0 to 8.0.  Not that either way is bad, OOo 
follows Open Source conventions while SO is governed by more commercial 
imperatives.
