marketing team,
the current site is such a collage of elements, the page's layout is
distracting and a bit confusing. for such a huge office-killer, you
really get the idea that the software is written by someone in their
basement. maybe it is, but does it have to look like that?
The website is maintained by the website project:
http://website.openoffice.org with it's own mailing lists.
If you'd like to help improving the actual look, please join this
project - you will be heartily welcomed.
The OpenOffice.org website is meant for users as well as for
community members and developers. With this diversified audience
there must be some compromises in the design.
Another point is that the website is hosted by CollabNet with some
limitation in tools to be used.
But at the website project you will get more informations...
You're right to think of the marketing impact of the website's
design, but in the moment, I think, nobody here has the time to do
this effort (and convince the people at the website project to adapt
it).
that said, i'm going to try to download and install the software
today. hoping that it works. i'd love to install it on my mac at home,
but the x11 thing is a bit of a confusing step that i have to read
into first.
If you have problems with it, I'd like to refer you to the Mac
porting team http://porting.openoffice.org/mac
There is a documentation about installing as well X11 as OOo.
Best regards
Bernhard
