Continuing the theme of attracting developers ... why don't we just
advertise for them?
Let me explain. IT folks are always reading job ads. Why don't we put
together a one-page advert for developers, like you would read in the
technical press. It would be part serious (describing the technical
skills required to be an extensions developer, or a core hacker...) and
part humorous ("we can guarantee our remuneration package will be tax
free..."). It would spell out all the advantages of working for this
wonderful community. Just like a real job advert.
For example, Otto seems to be making a revival. We could do a theme
around 'Otto needs you'
(like http://www.app-ltd.com/elymrc/images/Kitchener2.jpg)
This would be suitable for an A4 advert, and also for banner ads etc on
an Otto theme. If we get the materials ready, the next time we get an
offer of sponsorship, we would be ready - we could get handouts /
posters printed for use at shows, place banner ads on on-line media,
produce 'Otto needs you' badges for conferences, etc. etc.
Thoughts?
John
We had something similar when we had some type of campaing. I did an
"Otto needs you" which was..... well... not my best work. But I still
have that image somewhere on my computer maybe I could re-design it and
have it more attractive with the few techniques I have learn from
inkscape.
