Hi there!
Here is my introduction to the marketing subproject of OpenOffice.org and my request for Observer Status in this subproject.
My name is Bernd Eilers and I have been involved in OpenOffice.org since it´s beginning and in StarOffice before it became the base of the now Open Source Project OpenOffice.org. To extend my OpenOffice.org activities I would like to get the Observer Role in the OpenOffice.org Marketing project. I have been already involved in some marketing related activities around openoffice.org in the past via my membership in Team OpenOffice.org ev. and by supporting OOo marketing activities with programming tools and web development skills as part of my job an Sun Microsystems, Inc. My main Reason for requesting Observer role is to be better able to assists marketing activities around OpenOffice.org with software tools when needed by lurking around all the marketing mailing lists (which I already do on those which I can get to without observer status), by watching whats going on and than maybe assisting from time to time when that may be needed. I have also a fairly good knowledge about internal OpenOffice.org development and QA processes and OpenOffice.org features and might supply some of that from time to time on these mailing lists too when the discussion-thread at hand may be appropiate for that.
I´ve been working with and for StarOffice/ OpenOffice.org since over 10 years in different areas. I started by supporting developers using StarView the predecessor of OpenOffice.orgs VCL library, which was used inside StarOffice and also sold by Star Division, the company that originally developed StarOffice, as a cross platform C++ UI library to be used by other companies for developing their own cross platform programs; I did enterprise level support for StarOffice; switched to QA when we started doing automated API testing; did development on Sun One Webtop and am now working on StarOffice and OpenOffice.org tooling. My main work areas currently are EIS maintenance ( EIS is a tool assisting OpenOffice.org development and QA processes, see http://tools.services.openoffice.org ) and developing and maintaining the system to receive, store and compare OpenOffice.org / StarOffice crash reports and the developing and enhancing of the corresponding Sun internal developer web frontend to work on those crash reports.
