I do think that Ian would be the man for the job. The company I work for (www.axiomtech.co.uk) also do talks of this type. I've forwarded the message to our company's mailing list. We've worked with Ian before, and there are some mutual connections - so hopefully we can come up with a decent solution.

I am happy to do this, just depends on the exact date in February.
Wolverhampton is only 30 minutes from here.

Hi all,

Just FYI really.

We have been invited to another, related/conflicting, event being organised by the region's Business Link to be run (probably in March). My business (The Open Learning Centre) is in the South East, but one of our customers is in Bromsgrove so it sort of makes sense for us. We'll probably be going. Anyway, you might like to get in contact with the organiser to see if you could either combine, cross-promote or at least "not clash" with each other perhaps?

Here's the "meat" of the invitation of we received via the MD of Mercian Labels Ltd. (For obvious reasons, I've edited the main contact email address).

--------------------

Given the current challenging economic climate, Business Link West Midlands is developing a program of activities to help SMEs, one of which I have become involved in is a new IT for business show (awaiting final confirmation of funding), supporting a new funding stream for small consultancy projects to help business review their IT requirements. As a business owner who has already seen the benefits of migrating to open source, I am keen to see some commercial open source companies take up this opportunity to showcase open source.

The show is currently being planned by Steve Smith ( SteveSmith [at] businesslinkwm [dot] co [dot] uk ), sector manager for technology for a Birmingham venue in March 2009. Beyond this I have no other details.

Could I invite you to contact Steve direct (he is expecting referrals from me) to start planning your participation in this event? The likes of BT and Microsoft are already committed, and I think it would be a great shame not to show the other side of IT, and fly the flag for open source. I am happy to coordinate a joint stand or similar if you wish and maybe a speaking slot if they are available, I just know how much other businesses could benefit from open source if only people knew about it and the benefits it could offer.

Please feel free to forward this offer to others in the FOSS community, I don't have an extensive list of contacts in this region, but I am firmly of the opinion that this is an excellent business development opportunity for local open source companies.

Regards

Adrian
