So here is an idea on how spreading the word of OOo throught twitter.
Twitter launched an internal search option that browse through the tweets.
So the idea is for people to look for keywords that might lead to recomend
OpenOffice.org.

http://search.twitter.com/search?q=excel
or http://search.twitter.com/search?q=openoffice
Might give interesting tweets of people that might be benefit to learn
about OpenOffice.org or the many resources that the community produce
beside the application like Forums, extensions, etc.
You can use RSS technology to grab tweets from different keywords and make
it into one single feed and provide help through adding the '@<username>'.
