Hi Florian,

I apologize if this has been asked before, but who specifically owns the trademarked property? Is there an openoffice.org legal entity or is it a branch of Sun? I wonder how much decision making authority is vested with the OpenOffice group vs Sun, proper.

Best regards,
Ben Pracht

Hi Andy,

thanks for your nice introduction - I've just granted you the Observer status in the project. Glad to have you on board (and glad to see a former OS/2 user which I've used myself for many years :-)

Just read the d...@marketing list to see what's up and soon, you'll find some task you can work on. :-)

Unlike our software, the logo of OpenOffice.org is not available under a free license, and in parts of the world, it is also protected by trademark laws. This is done on purpose to prevent abuse of our name. These days many fraudulent sites try to benefit from our good name and reputation and lead users into doubtful offers.

Of course, we're happy to encourage legitimate usage of our logo, and therefore, I'm glad to permit the use of our logo for the purposes you've mentioned. There is only one limitation: Should you modify the image by any means, please send us a draft in advance.

Ready-to-print files are directly available at
http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/galleries/marketing/logos/

For all other logos and images - like those from the wiki - there might be different licenses. If you want to use one of these files, please contact the respective authors directly.

In case of questions, please don't hesitate to ask me directly.

Yours,
Florian

My name is Andy Brown, username therabi. I have been using using OpenOffice.org off and on since the it was Star Office for OS/2. I have been trying to get others interested in using OpenOffice.org. I have some ideas that I want to try but I am not a professional salesperson so I am looking for fliers, posters and other publicity type items.

I have requested permission to use the OpenOffice.org logos but have not received a reply. I have a sample web page setup at http://www.the-martin-byrd.net/openoffice.org.html . It is a simple page but follows the type that I prefer to use.

I have joined some of the other OpenOffice.org projects and working on those as well.

Thanks for inviting me.
Andy Brown
