Hi Florian, all,

Hi,
[...] Basically, we have several options. The easiest and cheapest one is setting up a machine with Asterisk and several SIP connections. We "just" need local SIP dialin numbers in various countries. In Germany that's pretty easy, worldwide it might get harder.

The other one is choosing a service that has local dial-in numbers world wide and use it as a hosted solution. I have no clue about the costs there, though.

The "luxury" one is having a worldwide toll-free number.
What;s about the fourth possibility, suggested by one of the Sun employees at Orvieto:

We could use their existing infrastructure for our calls.

If this would be possible, we wouldn't need to install our own service - maintaining this might become even more problematic than the costs...

I could imagine, that the marketing lead and co-lead would be allowed to get access to the Sun infrastructure and the passwords to install such calls for the marketing project.

It's just an idea - not discussed with any relevant group.

But if Sun or any other contributer would offer such a service to the community, I'd think this would be easier than our own service.
Perhaps it might be worthwhile to ask ...

Best regards

Bernhard

#2 and especially #3 can get quite expensive, so at first, we should check the actual demand. I doubt we are in the need for a worldwide toll-free number. How many people actually do use conference calls or plan to do so? We should be reasonable here...

My try would be to first compile a list of conference services available worldwide or locally, their costs and dial-in options, and then see what can be covered with that. The wiki page is a good starter, I guess.
