Generally, strategic marketing campaigns run in 3 year cycles with an annual 'media blitz' -- 3 month period of promoting 'new & improved' developments, usually timed to double-dip media exposure of a 'new product' in conjunction with an 'annual event'.

At the same time, each 3-year cycle (and media blitz) is developed to 'step-by-step' the organization toward attainment of its long-range (20-year) goals.

Such a strategy:

<> Aids and abets the establishment of a strong, clear, recognizable 'branding' identity throughout the targeted marketplace which (graphically and by behavior) portrays the 'stability' and 'desirability' of the product.

<> Respects overall cost-effectivness -- including the amount of time, talent and energy requisite to doing creative-collaborative development, copy writing/editing, custom graphics & design layout -- and the economy of scale in printing anything hard copy.

<> 'Starts with the end in mind...'

That is, 'marketing strategy' by definition seeks to actualize the goal of a 20-year agenda in terms of creating, organizing and publishing (whether in hard copy or electronically) the images and text that seem to best communicate and invite others to share in the engineering and development of an action plan which accomplishes the goal.

In the short-term, this objective is simple.. ie: download OOo and put it to use <grin>.

But over the long haul our goal (as I understand it) is to build a strong, cohesive, and prosperous Community of skilled, talented and 'like minded' individuals who rally around the flag of 'all for one and one for all', consistently endeavoring to make the world a better place... yes?

Openness. Freedom. Productivity. Satisfaction. Quality.

These are the traits which seem to stand out regarding the OOo 'product development strategy'... and thus these could be the 'core features' to be communicated throughout the graphical design of the Presentation Kit.

About which I have a few more comments to share but have been away from my desk for a few days and am just now catching up. Expectantly, I will get back to this later today or first thing tomorrow. ~Christine

Hi John,

i would suggest that we spend some money to hire some professionals.

We should work on one campaign for every major release. Keeping in mind that such a campaign would be valid for ~2 years or so i think it's worse to spend some money on such a campaign.

To help discussion, I've put together some simple sketches of how the
Presentation Kit could work.

Reminder: we have a professionally printed generic OOo folder like
http://www.folderprinting.co.uk/a4-single-pocket-flat-interlocking-folder.html

We then fill this with appropriate inserts. For example, for each
application we could have one A4 sheet with an eye-catching glossy front,
and more detailed information about the application on the reverse side.

The sort of thing I have in mind for the front side:

(Note: these would go inside the Presentation Kit, but they could also be
enlarged and used as posters, or even put as advertisements in magazines.)

I am *not* a graphic artist! these are simple 'sketches' for discussion -
we'd need the art project to turn them into something useful.

The reverse side of these would have the detailed description of the
application.

Any comments?

Thanks - John
