If
the issue is lack of RAM and USB support, why not talk to the Puppy
linux community and Puppy CD's being delivered to those schools with
OpenOffice pre-installed? The old hardware will perform again very
well.

 So must be compressed files. Since the time I test OOo, I assume the
 
 size of OOo is more 450 MB than 230 MB

 The problem I see, is a lot of schools have poor in RAM / old  
 machines, and often  ... catastrophic network.
 Now, with those machines, OpenOffice.org + logo (or not) on the USB 

 stick :)  ...  is just not adapted (IMHO).
