Most Customers are planning to Buy New Servers with Linux

Within five years the number of servers running under Linux will grow, but
under Windows - will decline. The first reason for the switch to open
source the respondents is called the technical superiority over license
proprietary products, and only then - to reduce costs. The third reason is
more higher security.

The study was conducted jointly with the Linux Foundation and Yeoman
Technology Group. In total, 1,900 were interviewed as representatives of
the world's largest companies and organizations. Their number includes
about 400 companies whose annual income equals or exceeds $ 500 million,
or size of the staff is more than 500 people.

According to this survey, in the next 12 months, 76% of companies plan to
buy new servers based on Linux, but based on Windows - only 41%. In this
case, 44% of organizations within the specified time plan to reduce the
number of existing Windows-machines or leave their number intact. Every
second company among the reasons for migrating to Linux said the freedom
to choose the provider and open-source, 46% - duration of life cycle, 38%
- a wider choice of software and 36% - a wider choice of hardware. In
addition, 70% of respondents have said that they are considering Linux as
a core platform for cloud computing. At the same time, only 18% of
organizations have expressed a preference for Windows, and another 11% -
Unix.

Thus. The world's largest companies and organizations in the next few
years plan to increase the number of servers running under operating
systems on the kernel Linux, including servers for solving a class mission
