[~colinm], are you using OSX, right?
I guess the issue can be with some WARs built with Java7 and then run it on
some JRE 8... but not sure.
What it'd definitely help it to try out the current development version of
MARMOTTA-499 and test this issue:

cd marmotta
mvn clean install -DskipTests -DskipITs
cd launchers/marmotta-webapp
mvn clean tomcat7:run -Pcleanall,kiwi

Please, be sure you have a JDK8 (so {{javac}}) for the test, and also disable
the cache in your browser (using firebug or devtools).
