       Body:
"I still think a lot of these need to be made defaults. For example the generate xdoc
directory is not something that is isolated to the xdoc plugin. It is a property that
any report that generates an xdoc needs. "

Can you be more specific? In the list I posted that property was marked as moving to
defaults.

"Any property that is used by other reports needs to be moved to a central location.
The xdoc plugin should no longer be the storage place for document report properties.
The only real concern of the xdoc plugin is to perform the transformation."

I'll scan the internal plugins looking for usage of maven.xdoc.* and any that are
found can get moved to defaults and renamed maven.report.*

How does that sound?

        Key: MAVEN-548
Summary: Clarify usage of documentation/reporting properties
       Type: Improvement

     Status: Unassigned
   Priority: Major

 Time Spent: Unknown
  Remaining: Unknown

    Project: maven
   Fix Fors:
             1.0-rc1

Description:
As time has passed I think it has become apparent that reporting is key feature of
Maven and as such I think it's time to push all of the properties for reporting and
documentation to a place where they can be easily accessed. Currently we have a lot of
the properties baked into the xdoc plugin which no long makes sense. We need a clean
set of properties for docs and reports and make them generally accessible. Properties
that would be in the same class as maven.repo.local.
