A generic solution will provide maximum flexibility for a template maintainer.

I wrote the first pass at genapp templates, and all this stuff sounds great. One thing I'd like to see as well is the ability for other installed plugins to define additional templates somehow. Maybe allow template namespaces that look in the plugin-resources for other plugins based on the prefix?
