I downloaded the maven tagged MAVEN-1_0-BRANCH.
I built it with the last plugins release and the build is successful.
I didn't reproduce your problem.
Is someone else have this problem ???

Well, the plugin is HEAD ... just Maven is 1.0-BRANCH.
