Thanks for all the work you did on this. I wish I'd been around to get in on
the discussion - I think we still may have to consider how we handle this
inheritence in RC3 if it is going to break builds.

I'm a bit concerned that you've jumped in and changed the maven-plugins CVS
without much consensus from the other developers though - last I read there
was some disagreement about what the structure should be.

I actually think the plugin-parent directory works best for now, so I'm
happy as is - everyone else ok?

Ideally, I would think that the project file should just be named
project-parent.xml in the root directory - but that doesn't work with the
magic filenames of project.properties and build.properties (so I'm all for
removing magic filenames in future versions of Maven other than project.xml
and calling for explicit references from the POM as to where the other bits
are located).

Less magic is a good thing. Well documented defaults are even better.
