IMHO its a great opportunity for tech companies that still use legacy versions
to come out and contribute specifically to these old versions, maybe with
urgent security patches or specific backports. Try talking to them if they
can engage here or sponsor known contributors to make such maintenance work
on their behalf - optimally in such a way that the contributions are open 
source again.
