I personally associate "build" with (hmm how to describe it) once
"instance" or execution of a Maven project or with a pipeline run by my
CI server.
I think the term project is fine as the POM also stands for "project
object model" according to the POM reference, so "multi-subproject
projects" feels unnatural atm the moment but I guess that's just a
matter of time until it settles

What about "multi-project build" or "single-project build" ?
The "multi-module-project" is exactly one I'd like to get rid of, as
"project" here is very ambiguous imho.

idea and the aspects behind it.
To add to the discussion about names/phrases:
As of now we have "multi-module-project" and "single-module-project".
"(multi-)subproject-project" is as clear to me as, and "single-project"
is a as goot as "single-module-project" in my case.

In order to avoid confusion between "Maven module" and "Java module",
I suggest to update documentation for using "Maven sub-project"
instead of "Maven module". However, the <module> XML elements in the
POM would be unchanged for compatibility reason. There is apparently
not so many places in the documentation that need to be updated. The
ones that I found are part of pull request #1625:
