Howdy, just some information about current stance of this VOTE:
Already several (quite bad) issues discovered: * https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-8334 redirect to log (-l logfile) is broken (https://github.com/apache/maven/pull/1824) * https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-8335 the new mvnenc CLI tool broken (https://github.com/apache/maven/pull/1825) * strange issues like user reported https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-8333 but also turned out beta-5 cannot build Maven Resolver master (due bnd plugin belly up). I find these quite serious issues, and part of them went unnoticed due new CLIng vs old MavenCli where our IT infrastructure still uses the old "hack" method to invoke Maven :( https://github.com/apache/maven/blob/master/maven-embedder/src/main/java/org/apache/maven/cli/MavenCli.java#L213-L223 Immediate workaround would be if we would switch ITs to "forked" invocation, but that would tremendously increase IT runtimes. On the other hand, we do want beta-5 out in the wild due to the latest v4 API changes in it. So, my stance is following: - the known issues will be recorded in release notes - still, I'd like to continue the vote and have beta-5 out in the wild (central) - despite CLI having severe issues (log redirect, mvnenc busted). In short, I am not canceling the beta-5 vote, but most probably will be followed by a quick beta-6, that fixes the most painful reported issues. Also, we may switch ITs to forked, just to see what happens... (and result may bring on more issues) Thanks to all who tested the RC!
