Hello everyone,

I’m Mazen, a computer science student and an open-source contributor
interested in contributing to Apache Maven. I recently had my first pull
request to Maven merged, and I’d like to continue contributing to the
project.

I came across #13379 <https://github.com/apache/maven/issues/13379>
(“Extract shared zero-dependency utilities into impl/maven-utils”) and was
interested in working on it.

Since the issue covers several utilities and compatibility wrappers, I was
thinking it may make sense to approach it through a series of smaller PRs
rather than one large change.

As a first step, I’d like to look at extracting Os, including the necessary
compatibility handling and tests.

Does that approach make sense, and is Os a reasonable first piece to start
with?

Thanks,
Mazen
