This was added because the code references the project from java code at some point.

It will work with Maven 1.0.x, but we don't want a snapshot, so the best plan of attack is to get a release of the model out. If you want to remove the dependency in the meantime, that's fine - but it will break the bootstrap on HEAD.

If you can manage to make it so that it doesn't depend on it, that might be better (ie, pass the values through from jelly to the Java entry point rather than reading the pom directly).
