Brett Porter commented on MNG-359:
----------------------------------

Can you please explain what you want us to support, or how you think this will
work?

The only thing in Maven that considers the directory structure is the <modules>
element which requires that the modules be in subdirectories.

> support project inheritence with flat project layout

> the project inheritence does not currently support projects that are laid out
> with a "flat" directory structure.
> ex:
> --/my-project-root/
> ----pom.xml (base pom)
> --/my-subproject-one/
> ----pom.xml (child pom)
