The specific problem was that the results of merging plugin configurations was
not persisted back to the Model instance. It was just a case of switching the
referent mergedPlugin to point to the model-based plugin instance rather than
the profile-based one.
Added a couple tests to DefaultProfileInjectorTest to guard against regressions.
