* <activeByDefault> does require a boolean value...mere presence of an empty tag is not enough (I suppose you know that now, though) * IIRC, profiles are not inherited. This is because their behavior is applied to the POM in which they're defined, and that resulting POM is used as a basis for inheritance...so inheriting profiles would apply them twice, in effect. * Just because active-profiles doesn't show your profile as active on the project you're trying to run doesn't mean its effects haven't been applied. If it's listed as active in the parent project, it's effects should be included via inheritance as noted above. * When you layout the scenarios for when effective-pom shows changes vs. when it does not, are you running the build from the child's directory, or from the parent (where the profile is probably most appropriately defined, in this case)? * Finally, just to simplify things a bit, can you comment out the redefinition of the central repository, and try it that way? I'd like to see whether the new repository is being added to the list, since that's about the simplest repository modification you can make.
