there are different avenues here, but we won't be adding a general disablement
for maven 2.0.
1) add <exclusions> to your dependencies to block the unwanted dependencies
2) file issues under "Maven Evangelism" for correcting the metadata of the
dependencies to either remove or make optional the dependencies
It will not take long to get all the data in good shape if everyone contributes
in this way.
