Checkstyle 4.0 is a major release that, among other things, include
(preliminary) support for Java 1.5 code constructs. It also requires
Java 1.4 to run. Changes have been made to the public API. My suggestion
would be to wait a while before updating the dependency until the impact
it has on the plugin has been examined properly.

Alright, we have a new opportunity here: Checkstyle 4.0 has been released.
Should we update the version while we're at it, or save that for the
next release? I'm not entirely sure what's involved, as I haven't
checked out checkstyle 4.0 yet...

Hi everyone,
I wanted to call a vote on releasing the next version of the checkstyle
plugin. I'm currently working on some major bugfixes, including custom
rulesets and configurations, more robust error handling for missing
locale resource bundles, and a couple other things (trying to trim the
list on jira down as much as possible). However, I believe that even
with only those two issues that I specifically mentioned above, it would
be worth a new release. These issues are not completely resolved, but
should be by the time the vote closes.
What do you think? I'll give it the traditional 72 hours, and we'll see
where we are then.
Thanks,
John
