It turned out that the layout problems I experienced in some projects were due to an organization logo that was too big. That had the strange effect of pushing the navigation menu into the center of the screen.
I am not a css wizard, I just noticed that when I removed the #breadcrumbs section from maven-stylus.css, the problem disappeared. It's probably something that can be fixed most easily by someone more knowledgeable than me.
However, I don't think that this is a reason for not including it in the xdoc plugin. If there are any objections, please raise them now as I intent to call for a vote on the xdoc plugin soon.
