I should have just turned on NTLMAPS and re-run the same command,
instead of also adding -cpu -U, but this has now sorted out the issue.
So it looks like mvn-proxy has got garbage data somewhere and causing
maven to fail.
I guess I will wait for Archiva to fix my woes.
This may all be maven-proxy's fault.

I've updated the maven-proxy to point to
http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2/ instead of
http://www.ibiblio.org/maven2 and all appears to be well.
