Thanks Stephane, I will do the log later.  At the moment I'm tight deadline,
I've reverted to version 2.0 and everything is working fine again.  I can't
give you the log because it will probably against company rules.  But when I
get the time I will try and cut it down to a smaller pom which shows the
same problem, that way you can reproduce it.  Might even download the code

Creating an archetype using the Maven Getting started document[1] and
typing idea:idea would be enough.

I think Jason is right, your metadata are probably corrupted locally.
My whole team is using 2.1 without any issue.

(Next time, use the user list for that kind of questions).
