maven-artifact lives here:

It is used by maven-project here:

http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/maven/components/trunk/maven-project/

And maven-artifact in its new separated location is referenced in the POM of maven-project.

I updated maven-artifact, and installed. I updated trunk, and installed. Bootstrapped, and that all went fine though there is another problem.

But I can certainly build everything.

OK. So the key is that maven-artifact has to be installed separately? I did that and it worked fine. Should the instructions on the web site be updated to reflect that? I assumed that doing a mvn install in components was supposed to build everything since http://maven.apache.org/guides/development/guide-building-m2.html implies that (at least the way I read it).

That page is really useless IMO. Just put a script with the instructions somewhere so that it can be done in a self contained directory somewhere i.e. a self-contained little environment. Add checks like we have in the bootstrapping script which check for the correct envars. I think the chances of anyone getting it right from that page are slim.

I hope the other problem isn't related to anything I did.
