Continuum was running it for a while, but it kept going down (admittedly
it was possibly a system problem). Every time I tried to find out the
results of a test, someone had to go kick it first because it wasn't
running. This was an ongoing problem for a long time and no one
apparently had the time to fix it for good. It was finally causing me
enough pain with the 2.0.9 release that I needed to do something. I'm
familiar with and prefer Hudson so it was a natural choice for me to use
if I'm putting in the time to set it up and maintain it.

Continuum is its own TLP now but Apache also runs Hudson instances
(http://hudson.zones.apache.org). The apache Hudson instance is
overloaded but Sonatype donated a machine with Hudson on it for us to
use. Just because a project is an Apache one doesn't mean we're required
to use it. Hudson has been running flawlessly so far, so what's the
harm? IMO, what's important is that Maven gets the service it needs and
right now Hudson is working for what we need.

If the project decides they want to use Continuum and someone volunteers
to set it up, keep it maintained and it's providing the service we need,
great. I could really care less what system executes our builds and
sends me emails as long as I can trust that it's always running and
providing accurate results. Unfortunately that wasn't the case in the
recent past.

This may already be answered before, in which case I apologize for the
noise. However, why aren't we eating our own dog food (aka Continuum)?

Thanks,

Jochen

Look, that's why there's rules, understand? So that you think before
you break 'em.
