Traffic is not the only or most important thing about links.
You probably know links are one of the most important variables in
search engine rankings.
The PRC asked all PMC to add such links to their project pages, so we do
this, it's not our duty to understand why, IMHO.
Put it somewhere better if you want it to be useful. It's just taking
up space otherwise.
How about adding this to the bottom of the front page:
If you want to put it higher that's fine. No one will see it down there.
I'm all for giving the ASF space and credit. Just make it be seen.
