Well, from my understanding, this is not a regression. What Paul says in the end http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-4687?focusedCommentId=235494&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Acomment-tabpanel#action_235494is not a workaround, but the right way to go.
