Hi all,

I just wanted to send a short note to tell you that I'm resigning as Maven's PMC Chair, and why.

First, my resignation is NOT a result of some upheaval within the project. It is NOT a sign of conflict, or a sign that anything is wrong.

On the contrary, around the time that I took up the post, the Maven PMC discussed the merits of having a more-or-less rotating chairmanship, and decided this was the course we wanted to pursue. The PMC Chair role is meant to serve as a conduit between the project and the Apache board, both for reporting on project progress and to help the PMC work with the board to complete any business that happens to cross outside the project boundary.

We've opted to share this responsibility with the idea that it will help us maintain a wider understanding of roles and process within the PMC. Additionally, it's my personal hope that sharing this responsibility will help us avoid the notion that any one person is The Leader of the project. This idea simply is not true...and it's unfair to the dozens of excellent developers whose hard work has made Maven what it is today.

The PMC has voted to recommend that Olivier Lamy serve the next rotation at this post. This recommendation should be considered at the next board meeting.

Thanks,

-john
