I will cut the release :-) But I don't think the milestones are a bad idea. It's a clear indicator of what it is and we have already seen one case where something is not going to work. Maybe during the milestones we can figure out how not to break Sonar which would be nice. It might give us a chance to see if the logging changes punch anyone else in the face which is also not a bad thing.
