I completely agree. In fact .. while I would suggest to do this asap and then make the same call for Maven 2. I wonder who would actually be actively stepping up to support Maven 2 specifically rather than fixing issue that come up in Maven 3.. probably more than Maven 1 but maybe not enough to keep pushing it either.
