glog can use gflags (where the symbol seems to be from). Maybe related to 
https://code.google.com/p/gflags/issues/detail?id=52 ? 

Can you take a look at config.log in 
build/3rdparty/libprocess/3rdparty/glog-0.3.3? My config.log states 
"ac_cv_have_libgflags=0", which I guess is the reason I can't find that symbol 
in my binaries.

If you cleared out the build directory completely, we may need to add 
"libraries" list with gflags to distutils in setup.py.
