Benjamin Hindman commented on MESOS-1478:
-----------------------------------------

First, thanks [~clarkbreyman] for creating this ticket and everyone for sharing
their perspective.

[~ghetzel], I personally want to make sure we don't treat this discussion in a
trivial way. When the project started over 5 years ago by a bunch of graduate
students we had no intention of being offensive, crude, casually intolerant, or
deliberately ignorant. Instead, as [~tstclair] pointed out, we were products of
the textbooks and course slides that we spent hours reading.

In order to do this we're going to have to roll out the changes through a
deprecation cycle since most companies that are using Mesos have tooling around
the project that assume certain names. I'd like to propose that we have
completed the renaming _internally_ in the project by the 1.0 release but that
we keep some of the externally visible names (e.g., directory names, REST
endpoints, etc) available for backwards compatibility. This will give people an
opportunity to phase out the use of the names themselves.

We'll use this ticket to capture sub tickets that need to get performed. I'm
really looking forward to getting everyone in the community involved to help
complete this, thanks in advance for everyone's patience and encouragement!

> TL;DR - Computers sharing work should be a good thing. Using the language of
> human bondage and suffering is inappropriate in this context. It also has the
> potential to alienate users and community members.
