ASN.1 is evil, IMHO.

Evilness is a question of which religion is yours. The point is that many protocols use ASN.1, like Ldap, SNMP, X400, X500, CMIP, PKCS, etc... Like it or not, ASN.1 is pretty everywhere.

Quite old ... ASN.1 spec has evolved a lot since.


Getting into the whole BER and DER voodoo is a waste of time, IMHO.

Again, sometime you have no other way : LDAP is using BER, so you should walk the line...

I was paid serious money last time I had to work with this stuff, and
now it would take far more.

Another good point : if you know about ASN.1, you can make serious money ;)

Seriously, there is a need for ASN.1, be it good or evil...
