Hi Pete,
Just tried Java 6 (using MINA 1.0.3), but it didn't seem to make any
much difference - puzzling!
Many thanks,
Richard.

I'm happy to do this, but is it likely to bring me significant
performance gains in this type of application?
Try using MINA 1.0.3, but running on Java 5 or Java 6 .. The NIO code
in the JVM has been improved with each release. As long as you compile
against 1.4, you'll be compatible with it, but can then run on a newer
JVM for its performance improvements.
