He didn't seem to give any sort of relative comparison between non- blocking and async. Rather, async gives great performance on an OS that has kernel-level async API's..

The beauty is that we should be able to slide async IO in under the MINA interfaces w/o any higher level code changes, so people will be able to pick what performs best for them!
