It's a historical thread. :)

Old version of MINA didn't provide ByteBuffer.duplicate(), so a user
had to create a copy of the original buffer every time they send the
same message to multiple recipients.  With MINA 1.0.0 or above, you
don't have memory consumption issue anymore.
