Hi guys,

we are now iterating through the last steps for MINA 2, as the 2.0.0-M4 (a code freeze) is now out (the announcement will be done later today). The next iteration will be a bug fix and a documentation improvement effort : 2.0.0-RC1.

It's now time for us to start thinking about what we want to see in MINA 3.0. I would suggest we start by creating a new roadmap on JIRA, and fill it with all the important discussion we had this year (replacement of ByteBuffer, splitting the chain in two pipelines, OSGi integration, JMX, etc...) and may be gathering the different options we have.

Also we have to think about NIO2, which will be available as soon as Java 7 will be out. It brings non Asynchronous IO, which is quite an important feature. How we integrate this into MINA, considering we want to support Java 5, is quite challenging too.

Anyway, we are now in front of a blank page, and it's an unique opportunity to inject new ideas without being constrained by existing usage of MINA, as MINA 2 will continue to be supported.

I guess that at some point, we might want to declare MINA 1.x a dead branch too.

But first, let's make the announcement for MINA 2.0.0-M4 !

Thanks !
