Note: you might also have stumbled on some *internal JDK* hardwired limitation 
regarding key size above 2048. If you _Google_ the exception message you can 
find quite a few issues being reported with some hardwired sizes. See if you 
are using the _Bouncycastle_ provider - if you don't, try using it and see if 
the problem is recurring.
